Letter from the Chairman of East India Company to the Chinese Viceroy (1792)

In the Letter from the Chairman of the East India Company to the Viceroy (1792), the chairman informed the Qing court that Lord Macartney’s embassy would soon set out and asked the locals to receive them well. The letter was initially delivered with a Latin and an English version, and was translated into three Chinese versions, all of which were collected in Magaerni fanghua shiliao huibian 马戛尔尼访华史料汇编 [Archives of Lord Macartney’s Embassy to China] (1996, p. 92, 216-217).

1792年英国东印度公司（East India Company）董事长致清朝总督函中，该董事长向清廷通报，马戛尔尼勋爵（Lord Macartney）率领的使团即将启程，并恳请当地官员予以妥善接待。该函件最初附有拉丁文与英文两个版本，后被译为三种中文译本，所有译本均收录于1996年出版的《马戛尔尼访华史料汇编》（Archives of Lord Macartney’s Embassy to China），具体页码为第92页、第216至217页。
