Periorificial dermatitis continues to be associated with corticosteroid use: A 15-year single center retrospective cohort study

Periorificial dermatitis (POD) has historically been associated with topical corticosteroid use. Despite greater awareness and education on safer corticosteroid use, patients continue to present with POD, prompting a reassessment of risk factors for POD and analysis of whether corticosteroid use continues to be associated with this condition.
Objective: To identify trends in corticosteroid-related POD over time, other predisposing factors, and treatments used in subjects presenting with POD.

A Single-center retrospective cohort study of all subjects diagnosed with periorificial dermatitis and treated by dermatologists at UMass Memorial Health from 2008-2023. Data on subject demographics, corticosteroid use, other common predisposing factors, treatment modalities, and frequency of resolution were collected.

口周皮炎（Periorificial Dermatitis，POD）长期以来被认为与外用糖皮质激素使用相关。尽管目前对糖皮质激素安全使用的认知与宣教已有提升，但仍有患者罹患口周皮炎，这促使研究人员重新评估口周皮炎的危险因素，并分析糖皮质激素使用是否仍与该病症相关。
研究目的：明确随时间推移糖皮质激素相关口周皮炎的发病趋势、其他易感因素，以及口周皮炎患者所采用的治疗手段。
本研究为单中心回顾性队列研究，纳入2008年至2023年间于马萨诸塞大学纪念医疗中心（UMass Memorial Health）由皮肤科医师诊断并接受治疗的所有口周皮炎患者。研究收集了患者人口统计学特征、糖皮质激素使用情况、其他常见易感因素、治疗方式以及症状缓解频率相关数据。
