Replication package for the Santo Toribio de Liébana medieval cartulary dataset

This repository contains the data, documentation, and replication materials associated with the data paper on the Cartulario de Santo Toribio de Liébana. The dataset provides a structured reconstruction of the documentary collection edited by Luis Sánchez Belda and converts the information contained in the cartulary into machine-readable research data. It covers 566 documentary acts and includes linked information on 576 payment or counter-performance elements, 603 place names, and 1,348 identified persons, together with a concordance between documentary numbering systems. The package preserves the documentary structure of the source while providing standardized variables suitable for quantitative and computational historical research. Particular attention is given to economic transactions. Payments and other forms of material counter-performance are recorded at the individual-component level rather than collapsed into a single transaction value. The data also distinguish operative contractual provisions from penalty clauses and other formulaic diplomatic material. Contains the materials required to reproduce and audit the construction of the dataset, including the structured datasets, extraction and coding documentation, variable definitions, provenance information, validation materials, and the code used for data processing and quality-control procedures. The replication workflow documents the transformation from the published documentary source to the final structured tables. It records corrections and normalization decisions while maintaining traceability to the underlying documentary act. The package is therefore intended not only to reproduce the published dataset but also to make individual coding decisions auditable. The dataset is designed for reuse in research on medieval economic history, property transactions, monastic institutions, historical geography, social networks, and computational approaches to diplomatic sources.
