This dataset provides lightfastness data for textiles dyed with early synthetic dyes, using historic sources from 1874 to 1905. Diffuse reflectance measurements were taken as a function of light dose (Mlxh) during exposure to a warm white (3200 K, 95+ CRI) LED illuminant at 20 klx. Calculated colour values are given using D65/2° viewing conditions, for samples measured over black and white backgrounds. Colour change was examined as a function of light exposure using the CIEΔE2000 formula. Lightfastness was assessed as the dose causing a just-noticeable difference (JND). A JND was defined as a colour change equivalent to ISO 105-A02 Grey Scale 4, using ΔE00=1.7 as an equivalency. A table of of metadata for the test samples is also provided. Note that the chemical classification and associated Colour Index (CI) information is based on assumptions made during cross-referencing of trade names and manufacturers with the first edition of the CI. Some corrections/amendments may be made following chemical analysis of the respective materials.
