We analyzed stable-hydrogen (δ2H), carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ 15N) isotope ratios in feathers to better understand the molt origin of European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) collected at dairies and feedlots throughout the United States. Primary feathers were used from 596 adult and 90 juvenile starlings collected during winter at dairies and feedlots that experience bird damages in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
本研究对羽毛中的稳定氢(δ²H)、碳(δ¹³C)与氮(δ¹⁵N)同位素比值开展分析,以期明确采自美国各地奶牛场与畜禽饲养场的欧洲椋鸟(Sturnus vulgaris)的换羽起源。本次研究共纳入596只成鸟与90只幼鸟的初级飞羽样本,所有样本均于冬季采集自亚利桑那州、加利福尼亚州、科罗拉多州、爱达荷州、伊利诺伊州、艾奥瓦州、堪萨斯州、明尼苏达州、密苏里州、内布拉斯加州、内华达州、新罕布什尔州、新墨西哥州、纽约州、北卡罗来纳州、俄勒冈州、得克萨斯州、佛蒙特州、华盛顿州以及威斯康星州存在鸟类侵扰问题的奶牛场与畜禽饲养场。
