We developed a High Mountain Asia (HMA) glacial lake inventory database (Hi MAG) that documents the annual coverage of glacial lakes from 2008 to 2017 at a 30-meter resolution. This is the first annual glacial lake inventory spanning the entire HMA region, which can provide detailed information and evolutionary patterns of various types of glacial lakes. Although the lake mapping methodology was fully automated, all lakes were manually verified and edited as needed. This database can be utilized for studies on glacier-climate-lake interactions, glacial hydrological modeling, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), potential downstream risks, and water resource research.
