Geographic Variation in Multigenerational Mobility

The study uses complete-count register data from Sweden, spanning three generations, to compare inter- and multigenerational transmission processes across municipalities. We first document spatial patterns in intergenerational (parent-child) mobility, and study whether those patterns are robust to the choice of mobility statistic and the quality of the underlying microdata. We then ask whether there exists similar geographic variation in multigenerational mobility. Interpreting those patterns through the lens of a latent factor model, we identify which features of the transmission process vary across places. Since the project uses restricted-access administrative data, we here only provide the necessary codes for replication as well as instructions for how to apply for access to the data.

本研究采用瑞典跨三代人的全计数登记数据（complete-count register data），比较不同市政区间的代际与多代际传递过程。我们首先记录代际（亲子）流动的空间模式，并探究这些模式是否对流动统计量的选择及底层微观数据质量具有稳健性；随后考察多代际流动是否存在类似的地理差异。通过潜因子模型（latent factor model）解析这些模式，我们识别出传递过程中哪些特征存在地域差异。鉴于本项目使用的是受限访问的行政数据，我们在此仅提供用于复现研究的必要代码，以及申请数据访问权限的操作指南。
