Ni is a promising co-catalyst for photocatalytic water splitting but it suffers from activity decay. We will use time-resolved operando XAS to investigate the deactivation mechanism of a model system based on dewetted Ni nanoparticles on SrTiO 3 single crystals. Results will enable rational design of photocatalysts based, e.g., on faceted metal oxide particles where HER and OER co-catalysts are site-selectively decorated on electron- and hole-collecting facets, respectively.

镍(Ni)是一种极具应用前景的光催化水分解助催化剂(co-catalyst),但存在活性衰减的问题。本研究将采用时间分辨原位X射线吸收光谱(time-resolved operando XAS),对基于钛酸锶(SrTiO₃)单晶表面脱湿镍纳米颗粒的模型体系的失活机制展开探究。研究成果将助力光催化剂的合理设计,例如针对具有规整晶面的金属氧化物颗粒,可将析氢反应(HER,Hydrogen Evolution Reaction)与析氧反应(OER,Oxygen Evolution Reaction)助催化剂分别位点选择性地负载于电子收集晶面与空穴收集晶面。
