It will connect the Sunbury and Cranbourne / Pakenham lines for the first time, creating a new end-to-end train line through the inner city. Construction of the Metro Tunnel began in 2017 and it is due to be completed by 2026.\n\nThe Metro Tunnel Project comprises various works packages. 本数据所示的概念设计反映了项目《环境与影响声明》（Environmental and Effects Statement，EES）中呈现的指示性设计，该声明已于2016年5月向社区公开传阅。

墨尔本地铁隧道项目包含两条9公里长的双隧道及5座新建地下车站，其中包括两座直接连接弗林德斯街（Flinders Street）和墨尔本中心（Melbourne Central）的城市车站。该项目将首次连通Sunbury线与Cranbourne/Pakenham线，形成一条贯穿内城的全新端到端铁路线。地铁隧道的施工于2017年启动，预计2026年完工。
