MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS OF COLUMN SAMPLES FROM SITE CA-VEN-1, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Nine column samples from a midden deposit at site CA-VEN-1 in southern California were
floated to recover macrofloral remains. This site has been dated from the Early Period to the Late
Period. Samples were collected from various levels in a 1-x-1 meter unit excavated in the vicinity
of the landing for the platform steps on the west side of the site in order to evaluate the subsistence
strategy for the site occupants.
