Weight loss and exercise intervention studies report an interaction between Bacteroides (Bvul) and Akkermansia (Am), although the underlying mechanism(s) and consequences of the interaction remain unknown. We hypothesized that (1) the interaction is related to obesity, and (2) the role played by Bvul in body weight control and enrichment of Am is both species- and strain-specific.
