Austria’s economy has performed well over the past decades. Its gross domestic product (GDP) per capita ranks 9th among the 38 OECD countries. However, fiscal deficits over the past several years have been large, as the government supported households and firms to cushion the impact of COVID-19 and energy price shocks.
