Jamaican Slave Names in Plantation Inventories, 1731-1788

The dataset is based on material transcribed from 13 eighteenth-century Jamaican plantation inventories and lists. It records the names of 3,162 enslaved individuals plus other information from the original manuscripts, in a format that both enables large-scale analysis and preserves each manuscript’s original detail. It also includes additional information for contextual and reference purposes, and an analysis of the most common name types recorded for the enslaved.
