Ecology 2050 Lab 2, Field Training With Plants

Ten adult Maple trees were located in the York University Woodlot area. An adult tree was considered over 12ft feet. A quantative analysis of the Maple diameter was obtained by measuring atape measure across the trunk at breast heigh tand recorded in inches. The canopy coverage of this each tree was determined by creating a square shape with our thumbs and index fingers and holding it up to the sky. The amount of canopy within this square was estimated. The nearest sapling Maple to the adult Maple tree was located and the distance was measured by placing a tape measure along the ground between both trees, the value was recorded in inches. The diameter of the sapling Maple was determined by placing the tape measure across the sapling trunk as close to the ground as possible, the value was recorded in inches.

本研究选取约克大学林地（York University Woodlot）内的10株成年枫木作为研究样本。成年枫木的判定标准为树高超过12英尺。枫木胸径的量化分析通过在胸高位置使用卷尺横向测量树干获取，测量值以英寸为单位记录。单株枫木的冠层覆盖度通过以下方式确定：以拇指与食指搭建正方形观测框架并举至天空，估算该框架范围内的冠层覆盖占比。针对每株成年枫木，定位其最近的幼龄枫木个体，通过沿地面在两树之间铺设卷尺测量二者间距，测量值以英寸为单位记录。幼龄枫木的直径则通过紧贴地面横向测量树干获取，测量值同样以英寸为单位记录。
