Ten adult Maple trees were located in the York University Woodlot area. An adult tree was considered over 12ft feet. A quantative analysis of the Maple diameter was obtained by measuring atape measure across the trunk at breast heigh tand recorded in inches. The canopy coverage of this each tree was determined by creating a square shape with our thumbs and index fingers and holding it up to the sky. The amount of canopy within this square was estimated. The nearest sapling Maple to the adult Maple tree was located and the distance was measured by placing a tape measure along the ground between both trees, the value was recorded in inches. The diameter of the sapling Maple was determined by placing the tape measure across the sapling trunk as close to the ground as possible, the value was recorded in inches.
