We conducted a greenhouse experiment to test how plant species identity and water availability influenced soil fungal communities. The data include ITS amplicon data for fungal communities for 8 plant species grown in 3 water treatments (high, medium, low). Plants and soils are characteristic of the Texas Coastal Prairie. Additional samples contain sequences for the background soil, the soil slurry that was used as starter inoculum for the pots, and pots that did not contain plants.
