The main objective of this research was to understand how daily interactions with the Intellitrac GPS system shaped users' perceptions regarding operational performance optimization, cost savings, and time efficiency in heavy equipment management. The data offers rich insights into the complex human-technology interactions within a demanding industrial setting, serving as a qualitative complement to existing quantitative research on telematics technology adoption. The dataset includes: Anonymized Interview Transcripts: Verbatim transcripts from semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted with five key participants (an Operational Manager, a Maintenance Technician, a Field Supervisor, and two Heavy Equipment Operators). All personal identifiers and sensitive organizational details have been removed or replaced with pseudonyms to ensure participant privacy and ethical research practices. Anonymized Observation Notes: Detailed notes from limited participant observations carried out in the coal yard and control room during real-time monitoring activities of heavy equipment (four bulldozers and one excavator). Contextual information that could identify specific individuals or locations has been generalized. Coding Scheme and Thematic Analysis Structure: A clear and detailed outline of the codes, sub-themes, and four main emergent themes identified through the rigorous IPA analysis process. This structure illustrates the analytical journey from raw data to the study's findings, which include: "Shifting from Reactive to Proactive Vigilance," "Dual Dimension of Visibility: Operational Clarification and Erosion of Interpersonal Trust," "Liberating and Enslaving Data: Ambivalence in Number-Based Supervision," and "Systemic Barriers Towards Full Efficiency." Processed Document Data (Aggregated/Generalized): Summarized or generalized data derived from the analysis of heavy equipment performance reports and Intellitrac GPS data records spanning from August to November 2025. Any proprietary or sensitive information from these documents has been removed or aggregated to maintain confidentiality. This dataset is a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in qualitative methodologies, the human aspects of technology adoption in heavy industries, human-computer interaction, organizational psychology, socio-technical systems, asset management, and operational efficiency within the context of power generation.
