Microbiome of the larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda

The aim of the present study is to examine the microbiome associated with the larvae of fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda and to determine their potential as biocontrol agents. We hypothesized that the microbiomes of S. frugiperda harbors microbial consortia of considerable ecological and economic importance and that gut microbiomes of fall armyworm plays a role in biological control of pests and diseases. To test the hypotheses, we investigated the microbial diversity of fall armyworm larvae collected from maize plants in Nigeria. We also discussed the potential functional roles of the identified microbiota and the impacts of different environment on the microbial composition of the gut of fall armyworm larvae.

本研究旨在探究与草地贪夜蛾（Spodoptera frugiperda）幼虫相关的微生物组（microbiome），并明确其作为生物防治剂（biocontrol agents）的应用潜力。本研究提出如下假说：草地贪夜蛾的微生物组中蕴含具有重要生态与经济价值的微生物群落，且其肠道微生物组在病虫害生物防治中发挥作用。为验证上述假说，本研究对从尼日利亚玉米植株上采集的草地贪夜蛾幼虫的微生物多样性展开了调查。此外，本研究还探讨了所鉴定微生物群的潜在功能，以及不同环境对草地贪夜蛾幼虫肠道微生物组成的影响。
