Danish Handicap Survey, 1961-1962

The aim of the survey was to give a reasonably reliable picture of physically handicapped people in Denmark both as regards number and as regards distribution on diagnostic groups, i.e. handicap, sex, age, education, occupation, income, housing conditions, etc. Information was also wanted about the effectiveness of existing social services for handicapped people and the need for further measures to be taken, in particular rehabilitation measures. #For this purpose, a representative sample of 600 physically handicapped persons was drawn. The general impression was that existing files were incomplete and therefore useless. So, as one of the aims of the survey was to compare the conditions of handicapped people with the conditions of the general population, it was decided to draw a large sample from the total population of Denmark (i.e. persons aged 15 or more) which would yield approx. 600 handicapped persons.
