Data and code for the paper entitled as "Functional connections between bird eggshell stiffness and nest characteristics through risk of egg collision in nests", which is accepted by Ecology Letters. This item includes four datasets and an R code used in the study. The four datasets are: 1. All_trees.nex Phylogenetic trees downloaded from birdtree.org for 1866 avian species with eggshell data 2. Consensus_tree.tre Consensus tree for 1850 avian species studied 3. Nest_egg_data_v3.csv Dataset on the nest characters, eggshell C number and clutch size of the 1850 avian species studied; including the following columns: Species: species names used as the tip labels in the phylogenetic trees Order: order of the species Family: family of the species Species_IOC: Scientific names of the species used in the IOC World Bird List BirdMass_g: adult body mass in gram EggMass_g: egg mass in gram LongAxis_mm: length of the long axis of the egg in mm ShortAxis_mm: length of the short axis of the egg in mm AxisRatio: ratio of the long axis length to the short axis length Asymmetry: asymmetry of egg shell Ellipticity: ellipticity of egg shell Thickness_mm: thickness of the egg shell in mm Stiffness_N/mm: stiffness of the egg shell in N/mm C: C number of the species Site: category of nest site (A: Other; B: Tree; C: Non-tree vegetation) Structure: category of nest structure (A: Scrape/Platform; B: Cavity; C: Cup; D: Dome) Attachment: category of nest attachment (A: Basal; B: Lateral/Horizontal; C: Pensile) ClutchSize: clutch size of the species 4. C_node_depth.csv Dataset on the C number values for the 1850 avian species and their ancestors estimated by BayesTrait; including the following columns: node: node IDs or tip labels in the consensus tree C: C number of the species or the ancestors node depth: branch length of the species or the ancestors in the consensus tree Passeriformes: passerine status (Y: passerine; N: non-passerine)
