The LMC hosts the giant HII region 30 Doradus and the very massive stellar cluster R136. Observations suggest that a collision of large HI structures has triggered the formation of R136. The ROSAT LMC survey revealed a large diffuse structure extending from 30 Dor to the south comma called the X-ray spur comma which fills about 1-20 of the LMC and emits soft thermal X-rays. It seems to be located between the colliding HI gas comma with the western edge coinciding with the location where the HI components meet. We propose observations of the X-ray spur with XMM-Newton to study the hot plasma with the aim to understand whether colliding large gas structures can trigger the formation of very massive stars and the heating of such a large part of the ISM.
