Marine birds and mammals of the Southern Ocean (a census for the CAML)

A specific part of the CAML programme deals with the top predators (birds and mammals) and calls to contributions from observers from all Antarctic voyages during the International Polar Year 2007-2009. An opportunity to contribute to the CAML synoptic network of top predators observations was offered to RBINS by the International Polar Foundation during the Cape Town-Antarctic voyage of the relief ship Ivan Papanin which will bring construction materials to the new Belgian Antarctic “Princess Elisabeth station” to Queen Maud Land. Observations of birds and marine mammals will be systematically conducted onboard according to the protocols established by CAML. Quantitative and qualitative data will be reported to CAML and made publicly accessible through the SCAR-Marine Biodiversity Information Network (http://www.scarmarbin.be).

针对CAML的海洋鸟类与海洋哺乳动物调查：本次调查在南大洋开展，搭载平台为破冰船"伊万·帕帕宁"号（Ivan Papanin），合作方为国际极地基金会（International Polar Foundation）。

CAML计划的特定分支聚焦于顶级捕食者（鸟类与哺乳类），并面向2007-2009年国际极地年期间所有南极科考航次的观察员征集观测数据。国际极地基金会在"伊万·帕帕宁"号补给船从开普敦前往南极的航次中，为RBINS提供了参与CAML顶级捕食者观测综合网络的契机；该航次将为毛德皇后地的比利时新建南极科考站"伊丽莎白公主站"（Princess Elisabeth station）运送建筑物资。本次航次将严格遵循CAML制定的观测规范，在船载环境中系统开展海洋鸟类与哺乳动物观测。相关定量与定性数据将上报至CAML，并通过SCAR海洋生物多样性信息网（SCAR-Marine Biodiversity Information Network，http://www.scarmarbin.be）向公众开放获取。
