The cards were arranged alphabetically by name of the correspondent or recipient.Information recorded includes:- name of correspondent or recipient- date correspondence received- number allocated to correspondence received- date correspondence sent- number allocated to correspondence sent- subject of correspondence- file number.It was practice in relation to the Index for incoming correspondence to be recorded in black ink and outgoing correspondence in red.
