Respiratory bursts were observed in A. bisporus. CO2 production and O2 consumption increased up to 3.5 fold during these 3 h bursts while compost temperature increased up to 3 °C. We set out to find which pathways were characteristic for these bursts and the interval between these bursts. Total RNA expression by Agaricus bisporus production strain A15, was analyzed during respiratory bursts, after a burst and in the interval between two bursts (i.e. ~0.5 h, 4.5 h, and 8.5 h after a burst started, respectively), by Illumina sequencing. In total 9 samples were sequenced, each sample point of a burst having each 3 replicates.
