Metatranscriptomic data from in situ-preserved samples unexposed to sunlight to assess the functionality of active metabolic pathways of N. stella in their natural deep-water sulfidic environment. This approach allowed us to examine whether kleptoplasty confers the capacity to assimilate inorganic carbon and the role(s) of other metabolisms potentially advantageous to the host.
