Functional fractionation of soil organic carbon (SOC) is critical for understanding and predicting its long-term stability. The impacts of photovoltaic power plant (PVP) construction on these functional SOC fractions and their driving factors remain unclear, particularly for particulate organic carbon (POC) and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC). This study quantified the SOC, POC and MAOC fractions at seven utility-scale PVPs in the grasslands of western China, where three experimental treatments were established at each site: outside the PVP (control), beneath the photovoltaic panels, and between the aligned photovoltaic panels (inter-row).
