On the mean profiles of radio pulsars III: Identifying the mode
收藏资源简介:
This repository contains the manuscript and supporting material for the paper On the mean profiles of radio pulsars III: Identifying the mode. The study investigates the identification of ordinary (O-mode) and extraordinary (X-mode) radio emission in pulsar mean profiles using published polarimetric surveys. The classification is based on the relation between the sign of circular polarization, (V), and the slope of the linear polarization position-angle curve, (d\mathrm{p.a.}/d\phi), following the theoretical framework of Andrianov & Beskin (2010) and Beskin & Philippov (2012). The analysis combines data from several major pulsar polarization catalogues, including Rankin (1990), Johnston et al. (2007), Weltevrede & Johnston (2008), Hankins & Rankin (2010), Johnston & Kerr (2018), Posselt et al. (2023), and Wang et al. (2023). The work compares the resulting mode classifications with profile morphology, pulse-width statistics, spin-down luminosity, and the occurrence of nearly flat position-angle curves. The main results show that single-component profiles are statistically more often associated with X-mode emission, while double-component profiles are more often associated with O-mode emission. The paper also compares the observed pulse-width distributions with expectations from propagation theory and discusses limitations caused by mode mixing, weak or ambiguous polarization signatures, profile complexity, interstellar scattering, and survey overlap. This Zenodo record is intended to provide a citable archival version of the manuscript and associated classification material.
