In law, women have equal access to employment opportunities and benefits in the workplace. A YES score is earned where a law explicitly establishes that: 1) women have equal access to opportunities and benefits in the workplace, 2) discrimination on the basis of gender is forbidden, and 3) women cannot be fired or demoted as a result of pregnancy. A general constitutional principle against discrimination based on gender is NOT enough to score YES. A MIXED score is earned where in law, within the same country, some women have these rights and some don't, when different legal frameworks coexist (civil, customary, sharia, etc.). This score is also earned if only some but not all the rights described in YES exist in the country. A NO score is earned where no law explicitly creates the rights described in YES.
