菊科风毛菊属无茎草本。叶呈莲座状，线形。总苞紫红色。花期7－9月。 喜冷湿，喜光。产西藏南部、中部到东部的广大地区，常生于海拔3100－5400m的高山草地、沼泽湿地、林缘湿地。西北、西南地区以及锡金、不丹也产。
This is an acaulescent herb of the genus Saussurea (family Asteraceae). Its leaves are rosulate and linear. The involucre is purplish red, and its florescence lasts from July to September. It favors cold and moist habitats and is photophilic. It is widely distributed across southern, central and eastern Tibet, usually growing in alpine grasslands, marshy wetlands and wetland forest margins at elevations of 3100–5400 m. It also occurs in Northwest and Southwest China, as well as in Sikkim and Bhutan.
