In this experiment, transect measuring tape was used to record the distance of any visible bird sightings. The distance was recorded in meters. Five trials were done for each woodlot and grassland where the transect tape was laid down and extended to about 20m. The frequency and the distance of bird sightings were noted down based on the observer’s standing location on the transect tape. Bird’s specie was also noted down based on visible observation. If a bird couldn’t be identified, ‘unknown specie’ was recorded in the data. Wind speed was estimated to be 4 based on Beaufort scale which ranges from 0 (calm) to 14 (hurricane force). This experiment was done in groups of 3-4. Our group members included Sana Jamal, Ferinaz, Afraa Tarafdar and Maham Anees (me). The data was collected on Friday October 3, 2014 on Keele campus of York University between 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The temperature was about 16ᵒC and it was raining.
本实验采用样带卷尺(transect measuring tape)记录所有可见鸟类观测点的距离,距离单位为米。本实验对小片林地与草地各开展5次重复试验,试验时将样带卷尺铺设展开至约20米长度。依据观测者在样带卷尺上的站位,记录鸟类观测频次与各观测点距离;同时通过目视观察记录鸟类种类。若无法识别鸟类种类,则在数据中标记为"未知种类"。本次实验依据蒲福风级(Beaufort scale,量程范围为0级(静风)至14级(飓风级))估算风速为4级。本实验以3-4人为一组开展,本组组员包括Sana Jamal、Ferinaz、Afraa Tarafdar与Maham Anees(笔者本人)。数据采集于2014年10月3日星期五,地点为约克大学基尔校区(Keele campus of York University),采集时段为当日14:30至17:00,现场气温约16摄氏度,当时有降雨。
