The war was made of scary writings: the pamphlets on the Independence of Brazil (Cisplatine Province, 1821-1824)

ABSTRACT In this paper I analyze the way that the pamphlets were used as a political tool in the Cisplatine province during the process of independence from Brazil. Studies on the press during the Brazilian emancipation have a prominent place and receive more and more contributions, whether in regional studies, in conceptual discussions, in models or forms of politics and citizenship. The pamphlets, in this sense, provide increasing prominence, offering access to an important means of mobilization and political dispute, with sources that point to the more dynamic and popular character of the development of the public sphere and the process of politicization of society. From this perspective, this work was organized in three parts. In the first, I discuss the definitions of what a pamphlet is and its basic characteristics of form and content. In the second, the public spaces of Montevideo are contemplated to demonstrate the importance of understanding where these loose sheets were printed and discussed, their linguistic context. And finally, I analyze the debates about the future of the province through these forms.

摘要：本文分析了在脱离巴西独立的进程中，小册子（pamphlet）在西斯普拉廷省（Cisplatine）的政治工具性使用路径。有关巴西独立运动时期报刊的研究始终占据重要学术地位，且相关成果日益丰富，覆盖区域研究、概念辨析、政治与公民身份的建构模式等诸多领域。就此而言，小册子的研究价值与日俱增：其不仅为探究社会动员与政治博弈提供了重要研究路径，相关史料亦能展现公共领域发展与社会政治化进程中更具活力与大众属性的特征。基于上述研究视角，本文共分为三个部分：第一部分阐释小册子的定义，及其形式与内容的基本特征；第二部分聚焦蒙得维的亚（Montevideo）的公共空间，阐明厘清此类文本的印制、传播场域及其语言语境的必要性；最后，本文依托此类文本载体，剖析围绕该省未来走向展开的各类辩论。
