VPRS 988 Chronological List of Contracts

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply.This series provides a chronological summary of contracts let by the Department. Originally entitled Certificate Book, it may have originally been related to the issue of a Final Certificate by the District Inspector of Works to signify the satisfactory completion of a contract. Details included are the date, the name of the contractor, the place and, for some considerable time, a summary of the particulars of a contract, the contract number and that of related correspondence and the amount of the contract.Further details of contracts may be found in VPRS 979 Contract Books, VPRS 997 Contract Books, State Schools Office and in VPRS 981 Register of Contracts Approved and Gazetted.
