Repurposing GBS swabs for maternal microbiome

This project tested the utility of re-purposing excess clinical vaginal/vaginal-rectal swabs collected as part of routine Group B Streptococcus (GBS) testing in pregnancy. The aim of this pilot study was to confirm that a reliable maternal microbiome could be obtained from the excess GBS swabs and the storage conditions prior to testing that may influence the observed microbiota.
