The ReVITAL project is a joint initiative developed by the Research Center for Well-being and Social Inclusion (CIBIS) at the University of Almería and the Almerian Federation of Associations of People with Disabilities (FAAM). This project represents an evolution of previous research carried out by the CIBIS-UAL team, focused on the use of immersive virtual reality as an innovative tool to promote psychological and emotional well-being in people with mild to moderate dementia. The main objective of ReVITAL has been to explore the therapeutic effects of exposure to virtual environments specifically designed to induce feelings of calm, emotional connection, and relaxation. These environments include bucolic landscapes, relaxing natural scenes, and places of special personal significance for the participants. Through these immersive experiences, the project has assessed physiological, psychological, and behavioral variables related to well-being, such as reducing anxiety levels and improving perceived quality of life. The preliminary results of the project have shown a high level of acceptance from both users and professionals involved, highlighting the potential of virtual reality as an effective and non-invasive strategy to address some of the emotional and social needs of people with dementia. Furthermore, the project has generated valuable applied knowledge that can be useful for implementing new therapeutic methodologies in clinical and residential settings.
