VPRS 6821 Title Search Notes Files

This series comprises a sequence of files titled as either 'volumes' or 'books' that document Mines Department title searches.  It is thought were made in relation to the management of mining and possibly mineral leases and it might also be that searches were undertaken as proof of title for applications for State-Commonwealth loans made under two Commonwealth acts, Loan Appropriation (Unemployment Relief) Acts of 1934-1936 and the Gold Mining Encouragement Act 1940 for which bills of sale for plant and possible mortgages of the property were held as security. These search notes may record: the lease/license number, district, land parish, name(s)of the holder(s)/mortgagees and other concerned parties, date of conveyance and sketches of the leased/licensed area. Some files of specific leases containing search notes, with contents extending back to 1869, were also found with these files and thus were retained in this series. It is unknown whether any further files were created as part of this series after 1947. This series was originally identified and documented by a service provider.  An evaluation of the supplied documentation in 2025 amended this series description.
