The objective of the proposed research is to analyze in Space the directional solidification of DMSO-based materials systems, with DMSO serving as model solvent for water. DMSO was chosen because the PFMI facility is limited to a minimum Temperature of 5°C, and thus cannot directionally solidify aqueous systems. The experiments will provide input and benchmark data for our analytical and multi-scale computational modeling, specifically 3D phase-field (PF) simulations.
本研究拟开展的目标是在空间环境中分析基于DMSO的材料体系的定向凝固过程,其中DMSO作为水的模型溶剂。选择DMSO的原因在于PFMI装置的最低温度限制为5°C,因此无法对水基体系进行定向凝固。这些实验将为我们的解析与多尺度计算建模(尤其是三维相场(PF)模拟)提供输入数据和基准数据。
