Large-Scale, Multi-Year Microbial Community Survey of a Freshwater Trout Aquaculture Facility

The profiling of microbial communities residing within aquaculture facilities have generally been focused on the farmed species as opposed to the water and surfaces that surround the. Our goal with this study was to characterize the microbial communities residing at three different sites in and around a freshwater rainbow trout aquaculture facility while simultaneously detecting economically-relevant Flavobacterial fish pathogens. This work will better the understanding of the microbial ecology and community dynamics within an aquaculture facility and inform on potential under-studied sources and reservoirs for recurrent pathogens.

以往针对水产养殖设施内栖息微生物群落的解析研究，通常以养殖物种为核心研究对象，而非其周边的水体与附着表面。本研究旨在对一处淡水虹鳟水产养殖设施内外的三个不同点位的微生物群落进行特征表征，同时检测具有经济相关性的黄杆菌类（Flavobacterial）鱼类致病菌。本研究将增进学界对水产养殖设施内微生物生态学特征与群落动态的认知，并为揭示复发性致病菌的潜在未被充分研究的传播来源与储存宿主提供参考依据。
