Effects of Trichuris suis ova administration on the rabbit gut microbiome. Oryctolagus cuniculus

Trichuris suis ova (TSO) have been tested for a therapeutic use in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Clinical trials have shown promising results but the underlying mechanisms and the safety in patients with immunosuppressive therapy could not be investigated so far, due to lack of a suitable animal model. We used a recently established rabbit model of colitis to study the efficacy, mechanisms and safety of TSO therapy in immunocompetent and immunosuppressed animals.

猪鞭虫卵（Trichuris suis ova, TSO）已被测试用于炎症性肠病（inflammatory bowel diseases, IBD）的治疗性应用。多项临床试验已展现出颇具前景的结果，但由于缺乏合适的动物模型，目前尚未能探究其潜在作用机制以及接受免疫抑制治疗患者的用药安全性。本研究采用新近建立的兔结肠炎模型，探究TSO疗法在免疫健全与免疫抑制动物中的疗效、作用机制与安全性。
