EMAP Field Notes - 85NM601 Unit 1

Site number 85NM601 is a (highly probable multi-component site, comprised of seven pit house structures, a great kiva, and two or three-room pueblos. It is located on a flat area located between a ridge and the top edge of an eroded cliff. There is a small step-down at the bottom of this cliff face which contains another similar site. Below the step down lies the Polomas Creek. The object of our excavation was to open up a lm x lm test unit in one of the pit houses (Pit Structure D) in order to d determine whether this structure was indeed a pit house; and what sort of archaeological artifacts and features it contained.

编号85NM601的遗址为极有可能的多组分遗址，由7座半地穴式房屋（pit house）、1座大基瓦（great kiva）以及2至3室的普韦布洛式建筑（pueblo）构成。该遗址坐落于山脊与侵蚀悬崖顶端之间的平坦区域。此崖壁底部设有一处小型下阶地带，其中坐落着另一处同类遗址。该下阶地带下方即为波洛马斯溪（Polomas Creek）。本次发掘的目标为：在编号为D的半地穴结构（即其中一座半地穴式房屋）内布设1米×1米的探方（test unit），以验证该结构是否确为半地穴式房屋，并探明其包含的考古文物（archaeological artifacts）与遗迹特征。
