In order to study the effects of drought exposed under heat stress on the bacterial community, 10 intact soil monoliths (50x50x70cm) with their native vegetation were sampled from a beech plot in the Hainich exploratory. After acclimatization to the greenhouse conditions, the monoliths were separated into soil moisture treatments (well-watered and drought, 5 replicates). To assess the community structure of the metabolically active bacteria, 16S rRNA was analyzed via MiSeq-based (Illumina) high throughput sequencing at three different time points (before and after drought treatment).
