As a part of the international expedition Ice Station Polarstern (ISPOL, http://www.ispol.de/), sonic anemometer measurements were carried out on ice floes on the Weddell Sea (68 degrees S, 55 degrees W) in 28.11.2004 - 2.1.2005. Two Metek USA-1 sonic anemometers were used, set up on top of 3.5-m high steel masts. The instrument were set up in two different locations on the single large ISPOL ice floe. For a short period, one of them was also set up on a separate floe. Three wind components and air temperature were sampled at 20 Hz frequency. From these data, momentum and sensible heat fluxes and other turbulence parameters were automatically calculated at 10 minute intervals. The data set includes the raw (20 Hz) air velocity and temperature data, and the following parameters as 10-minute averages: wind velocity (m/s), air temperature (degrees C), variances and covariances of the wind/temperature components, friction velocity, drag coefficient, Monin-Obukhov length and sensible heat flux. The air temperatures are just trendsetting, relative readings.
