Character states and callus lengths for each species. The species are the 280 species of Danthonioideae (Poaceae). Characters are awns, lemma indumentum, callus indumentum, callus length and life history.

Awns are coded as present (0) or absent (1). Absence of an awn denotes species in which the awn is altogether absent or reduced to a ‘mucro’, i.e. reduced beyond hygroscopic function. Callus and lemma indumentum are coded as villous (0) or glabrous (1), with ‘glabrous’ coded only for those species that never produce hairs on these surfaces. Polymorphic species are coded as (0). Life history was coded as perennial (0) or annual (1). Four species of Pentameris are biannual and these were coded as perennial to distinguish species that survive as adult plants for more than one growing season from those that do not.

芒的编码规则为：存在记为0，缺失记为1。芒缺失指该物种的芒完全消失，或退化为芒尖（mucro），即其结构已丧失吸湿功能。

愈伤组织与外稃的毛被编码规则为：具长柔毛状（villous）记为0，无毛（glabrous）记为1，其中“无毛”仅适用于在该两处表面完全不产生毛被的物种。存在多态性的物种统一编码为0。

生活史的编码规则为：多年生（perennial）记为0，一年生（annual）记为1。五蕊草属（Pentameris）中有4个物种为两年生，为区分能存活多个生长季的成年植株与无法存活者，将这4个物种编码为多年生（0）。
