NRS-19749 | Use of Common Seal Register [Charles Sturt University]

This series is comprised of two registers containing lists of students of Charles Sturt University who have completed degrees, and as such, required the Common Seal to be affixed to their Graduation Testamur.In the first register, the Common Seal was applied to all those Testamurs listed on 21 March 1990 for the students graduating in April 1990. The second register is a series of loose pages removed from a book and wrapped in card. The initial page of the bundle provides the guidelines for the use of the Common Seal: "Clause 30 of the Charles Sturt University Act, 1989 states that: the seal of the University shall be kept in such custody as the Board may direct and shall only be affixed to a document pursuant to a resolution of the Board." The Common Seal is required principally for Testamurs or By-Laws. Its use is also required in certain legal circumstances where its application should be in accord with either a specific resolution of the Board or a delegation approved by the Board. Recommendation number 3 states that: "The Vice-Chancellor is hereby authorised to affix the Common Seal of the University to the certificate or other like document to be issued to any person as evidence of his or her admission to a degree of other award of the University."
