Traditional African vegetables: species selection, origin, use, and cultivation

This database provides a extensive list of 422 reported traditional African vegetables. We selected any vegetable mentioned in at least two of five species lists for more detailed study at regional scale, resulting in a final list of 126 species. A literature review was carried out for all the 126 vegetable crops identified exercise to summarize reported geographic areas of domestication and/or species origin, food uses and cultivation status (Supporting information or originated from Africa were classed as indigenous vegetables. Species introduced from other countries were classed naturalized vegetables. We assume domestication or species origin harbor high levels of genetic resources and traditional knowledge.

本数据库收录了422种已报道的非洲传统蔬菜的详尽名录。我们选取了在5份物种名录中至少被2份提及的蔬菜物种，以开展区域尺度下的深入研究，最终得到包含126个物种的名录。针对本次研究确定的全部126种蔬菜作物，我们开展了文献综述工作，以汇总已报道的驯化地理区域、物种起源地、食用用途及栽培现状（详见补充材料）。凡起源于非洲的物种均被归类为本土蔬菜；从其他国家引入的物种则被归为归化蔬菜。我们认为，物种的驯化过程与起源地蕴含着丰富的遗传资源与传统知识。
