Studies on the tendency of Trialeurodes vaporariorum to shape and color

The greenhouse whitefly is a highly destructive and economically significant pest in agricultural production, its adults display distinct behavioral traits such as strong color and shape preference. This study measured their preference responses using cards of various colors, shapes and RGB values. According to the results, greenhouse whiteflies had the overwhelming fondness for yellow color,and showing greater interests in color cards 1 (215:255:6) and 3 (255:255:0) among the various yellow color cardswith different RGB values. They also showed a significantly higher preference for green color when the background was also greenwhile their most preferred shapes were circular and semi-circular. In experiments involving shape-color combinations, their favorite was yellowand circular shape. The results of this study will deepen our understanding of the behavioral and biological characteristics of greenhouse whiteflies, while providing novel insights into environmentally friendly pest management strategies tailored specifically to these insects.
