Bacterial composition of Anopheles and Culex mosquito breeding sites

Mosquito breeding ponds in urban cities are expanding vectors into new niches and increasing the spread of diseases such as malaria. While mosquito species are adapting to these previously unfavourable habitats, the micro-environmental factors within these ponds can provide vital information to enable effective larval source surveillance, and environmentally informed ways to prevent mosquito breeding. We assessed bacterial contents in selected breeding habitats using 16S amplicon sequencing with the aim of identifying such bacterial signatures.
