CBP80 (cap binding protein 80) has previously been implicated in miRNA biogenesis in plants. We identified cbp80 loss-of-function mutations in a genetic screen for Arabidopsis thaliana mutants showing either reduced or enhanced expression of an alternatively-spliced GFP reporter gene. To study the role of CBP80 in miRNA biogenesis, we have deep sequenced small RNAs in cbp80 mutants and their corresponding control lines.
