FINS: Fossil Neoselachian Dataset

The FINS (Fossil Neoselachian) dataset represents a comprehensive and extensively curated collection of fossil occurrences of modern sharks, rays, and skates, and their extinct relatives, covering the past 145 Myr. The information contained in the dataset were extracted from published literature, which was obtained from Shark References (https://shark-references.com) and from the Paleobiology Database (https://paleobiodb.org/). The dataset comprises of three tabs - collections, occurrences, and references. The collections tab contains information on the localities where fossil occurrences were found, including geographical, stratigraphical, and chronostratigraphical information and an evaluation of the age assigned. The occurrences tab contains the occurrences reported from each collection, including their taxonomy, status, abundance and an evaluation of taxonomic assignment and validity. Lastly, the references tab contains a list of literature from which the data was extracted.
