This study employs a three-stage structural model (i.e., CDM model) to estimate the impact of innovation on exports in Knowledge-Intensive Business Services (KIBS). The data comes from a firm-level innovation survey in Colombia that covers 25,996 observations from 2014 to 2019. The results show that innovation makes it more likely for service firms to export, especially for KIBS firms. I suggest that this is because KIBS firms can combine innovation with other factors that enhance its returns, even in a sector that is already very innovative. Based on these results, I discuss how innovation policy can help KIBS firms to internationalize and contribute to modern productive development.
