Endospore forming <i>Bacillus megaterium</i> is a Gram-positive bacterium that previously was the model organism of choice prior to the development and ascendency of <i>Bacillus subtilis</i>. Larger than the typical bacterium, <i>B. megaterium</i> cells occur in pairs or chains, where each cell is attached to another through polysaccharides on the cell wall. This work presents the proteome repertoire of this fascinating bacterium. Using an in-house MATLAB proteome analysis software, this work parses the UniProt proteome file of <i>B. megaterium</i> ATCC 12872. The resulting database comprises protein name, amino acid sequence, number of residues, molecular weight, and nucleotide sequence, and should find use in a wide variety of biology and biotechnology applications that pertain to understanding basic biology of the species, or for informing selection of genes for molecular cloning experiments.<br><br>
产芽孢巨大芽孢杆菌(Bacillus megaterium)是一类革兰氏阳性(Gram-positive)细菌,在枯草芽孢杆菌(Bacillus subtilis)发展并成为主流模式生物之前,它曾是学界首选的模式生物。相较于普通细菌,巨大芽孢杆菌的细胞体积更大,常以成对或链状结构存在,细胞间通过细胞壁表面的多糖彼此连接。
本研究构建了这一特殊细菌的完整蛋白质组图谱:研究采用自研MATLAB蛋白质组分析软件,解析了巨大芽孢杆菌ATCC 12872的通用蛋白质资源库(UniProt)蛋白质组文件。最终得到的数据库包含蛋白质名称、氨基酸序列、残基数目、分子量以及核苷酸序列,可广泛应用于与该物种基础生物学研究相关的各类生物学与生物技术场景,亦可为分子克隆实验的基因选择提供参考依据。
