Balance Of Payments and International Investment Position: June 2024

Quarterly international investment survey The Stats NZ quarterly international investment survey (QIIS) collects data on transactions and positions of international financial assets and liabilities. Data collected in the QIIS are primarily used to produce New Zealand’s balance of payments and international investment position statistics. For the June 2024 quarter, the response rate for the QIIS was 92 percent. Nominees survey The Stats NZ Nominees Survey collects data about shares issued by New Zealand companies and held by non-resident beneficial owners via a New Zealand nominee. Data collected in the Nominees Survey are primarily used to produce New Zealand’s balance of payments and international investment position statistics. For the June 2024 quarter, the response rate for the Nominees Survey was 89 percent. General merchandise on a BOP basis The June 2024 quarter figure reported for series S06AD00000A1101 General merchandise on a balance of payments (BOP) basis was $19,476 million. This was $140 million greater than the equivalent figure reported in the International Trade: June 2024 quarter release, published on 3rd September 2024.
